Mayfield and Easthouses Y2K youth project hosted a fundraiser quiz evening on Thursday (24th Oct) from 6.30-8pm. The Y2K team devised a fun and entertaining quiz and used donated vouchers for prizes. Mabel and Gayle were pleased to be able to attend on behalf of the church and made up a dynamic duo quiz team “The Newbattle Nerds” who won first place and £40 of Scotmid vouchers. These vouchers have been donated to Messy Church for their November dinner!
The Y2K Youth Reps applied to Fast Forward a couple of months ago and were awarded a small grant to produce a short film on raising awareness of gambling issues and the impact on young people. Much of what they wanted to highlight was the widespread accessibility of gambling and they carried out a few short surveys and ‘Let’s Talk’ discussions during the InvolveU evening drop-in sessions.
A group of 12 young people went along to Sky Studios in Livingston and produced a fabulous short film as a Sky News Report on the ‘Don’t be a Loser’ campaign (4mins) which they showed on Thursday evening to supporters, friends and families including young people before running the fun quiz themed around gambling prevalence in the media, music and tv. The young people wanted to raise awareness of how much gambling is ‘normalised’ in our society and of course highlight that most lotteries etc. are strongly linked to charitable giving also. No judgements or answers, more food for thought!
