 Wedding Vows: (Samples)

The exchange of vows are the most important part of any wedding. They are more than mere words. Well crafted vows exchanged with sincerity express the experience of love rooted in commitment. They are if you like the 'inner reality' of your relationship forged into human language.

Here is a collection of wedding vows suitable for use in a religious or church service. With the agreement of the officiating minister these vows can be shaped and altered so they reflect your story and express something of the your commitment to each other. Alternatively, why not try and write your own wedding vows?

First form of vow:

In the presence of God and before these witnesses, I, A..., give myself to you, B..., to be your husband, and take you now to be my wife/husband. I promise to love you, to be faithful and loyal to you, for as long as we both shall live.'

Second form of vow: (From the Uniting church of Canada)

In the presence of our families and friends,

          I, “A", take you, "B" to be my wife/husband

to laugh with you in joy

to grieve with you in sorrow

          to grow with you in love;

to be faithful to you alone,

As long as we both shall live

Third form of vow (Traditional)

I, A… take you B..., to be my (wife/husband),

to have and to hold from this day forward,

for better or for worse, for richer for poorer,

in sickness and in health,

to love and to cherish;

from this day forward until death do us part.

Fourth form of vow

my partner in life and my one true love.

I will cherish our friendship and love you today,

                tomorrow, and forever.

I will trust you and honour you.

I will laugh with you and cry with you.

I will love you faithfully. through the best and the worst,

through the difficult and the easy.

What may come I will always be there.

As I have given you my hand to hold So I give you my life to keep

                So help me God.

Fifth form of vow

I ....take you .... to be my wife/husband,

secure in the knowledge that you will be my constant friend,

my faithful partner in life, and my one true love.
On this special day, I .... give to you in the presence of God

and these witnesses my sacred promise t

o stay by your side as your faithful husband/wife

in sickness and in health, in joy and in sorrow,

as well as through the good times and the bad.
I promise to love you without reservation,

comfort you in times of distress, laugh with you and cry with you,
